denturist in France

For better living and better aging

Objective of the repository

In the exercise of the profession of Denturist it is necessary to develop a professional and skills framework in order to guarantee the quality of the paramedical exercise as requested by mission letter from Mr. Xavier Bertrand in 2007.

With this objective, a working group was formed including a hospital department head doctor, an osteopath, an emergency ambulance doctor, a dental prosthetist, and a denturist.

The chosen method consists of targeting typical situations that are part of the Denturist's core business and present a sufficient variety of situations to which he can. These situations are grouped together in a framework which does not claim to be exhaustive, and which aims to objectively develop the minimum knowledge and techniques required.

This reference system is intended to be an educational tool for the benefit of the profession.

It is inspired by that of the dental surgeon since it is a partial access to the profession.

Presentation of the mission Evaluation of professional skills of the profession of Denturist, by Thierry SUPPLIE, Head of the mission

The process of developing standards describing the profession and the required skills undertaken by Formations Thierry Supplie in collaboration with the International Federation of Denturology “Assessment of professional skills for the profession of Denturist” is of national interest.

The ruling of the European Court of Justice of February 25, 2021 which definitively validates partial access to the profession of Dental Surgeon implies the need for training for the profession of Denturist.

Numerous issues of safety and quality of care on the one hand and professional development on the other hand guide this approach to evaluating paramedical skills initiated by this pioneering work.

The increase in high-tech procedures, the judicialization of the health system, the evolution of patients' expectations, the consideration of the increase in prosthetic needs, lead us to a more individual approach to medical liability in France.

The mobility of health professionals in Europe and around the world encourages each country to provide systems for recognition and validation of skills regardless of the place of obtaining the diploma with the aim of guaranteeing the population access to healthcare. best possible, carried out by competent professionals.

The expectations of every individual for development and change throughout professional life based on experience acquired and the specificities of the exercise, invite training systems to establish bridges between specialties.

Recent and upcoming reforms strengthen the regulation of the quality of medical and paramedical practices.

However, the assessment of the skills of professionals cannot be taken into account in the planned mechanisms for continuing medical training, evaluation of professional practices, continuing professional development and accreditation of practice for professions in full digital evolution with increasingly distinct specializations.

Expected uses of repositories

The uses selected for the Denturists’ reference system were as follows:

• inform about the profession and contribute to promoting it

• contribute to developing homogeneous qualification criteria to ensure identical quality of care for patients throughout the territory and constitute a basis for authorization

Ø for all Denturists in initial training

Ø to subsequently describe existing and future specialties

Ø for Denturists foreigners from countries outside the European Union.

• guarantee that the Denturist is, in his specialty, a quality professional;

• guide initial and continuing training courses.

The working method

The Denturist standard has been developed according to the following guiding principles:

Have a simple common language

Differentiate between “being competent” and “having skills”

Having a common language is already and always has been a professional necessity.

The distinction between “being competent” and “having skills” is necessary: …
