What is a denturist?

Denturist is the term used in Europe (it comes from the English word “ denturist ), but we more commonly say denturist. It is the only professional who simultaneously designs (with analysis and taking impressions of the patient), manufactures and installs removable prostheses, and carries out their repair. He intervenes when all dental care is completed, but he nevertheless has medical knowledge allowing him to identify and report a risk of pathology to refer the patient to the treating doctor or practitioner.

The denturist is an oral health professional

The denturist is a professional who specializes in the manufacture, adjustment and repair of dental prostheses, particularly removable prostheses such as dentures. Denturists are not permitted to perform medical procedures in the broad sense because their scope of practice is specifically related to prosthetic dentistry.

Medical procedures, such as diagnostic examinations, drug prescriptions and surgical procedures, are the responsibility of dentists, doctors and other healthcare professionals. Denturists may work closely with dentists and other members of the oral care team to provide comprehensive patient care.

Denturists often work in collaboration with other oral health professionals, such as dentists and dental hygienists. This collaboration aims to ensure comprehensive care of patients’ oral and dental needs.

108.000 more people in nursing homes by 2030 and it is certainly the tree that hides the forest! In a study carried out in France, it appears that 28,1% of subjects over 65 years old wore a complete upper single maxillary prosthesis and that the rate of total double maxillary edentulism was 16,3%. This rate was significantly higher among subjects with a low socio-economic level and living in rural areas. WHO projections estimate approximately 30% of total edentulous people by 2030.

The distinctions between the two professions

These are two distinct professions, the dentist is the only one of the two to carry out dentistry and the treatment of diseases while the denturist is an important specialist in many dental treatments.

Indeed, although these two jobs are in the dental field, they do not do not require the same training and the same skills.

The dentist and the denturist work in a complementary manner.
A denturist is a complementary dental discipline which concerns oral appliances.

The free health policy is forcing us towards the American model, and not towards the English model.

The American model is structured around
care networks of private insurers, which require the insured to only consult the
listed professionals and these professionals to only prescribe what the network authorizes (this is exactly what happens in France); policyholders are obliged to seek treatment in dental practices or groups having signed partnership contracts with private insurers through extensive economic negotiations on the pricing of prostheses at reduced prices from imports without the patient being aware of them. be informed.

The French free health project of inspiration
socialist has nothing social about it. It is a formidable crucible of social inequalities and exclusion of
the middle class with quality medicine while not solving the problems of the most deprived.
